Valentine’s Day fever yet to grip retailers

Valentine’s Day calls for some special offers and massive sales for retailers

As the nation celebrates love this Valentine’s Day, retailers across the country will look to cash in on the same. While some retailers have already announced special offers marking the special occasions, some are waiting for the weekend before Valentine’s Day to make the move.

A recent survey by Retailing360 saw voters split on their opinion about retailers’ participation. While 50% of the voters felt that retailers were doing all possible things to cash in on the Valentine’s Day fever, the rest did not have an opinion the on same.
Retailers gearing up
Jewellery retailers understand the sentimental value of the occasion and have already announced new ranges. Gitanjali is among the first few to reveal a wide range of exquisite jewellery from its brands like Gili, D’Damas, Sangini, Diva, Nakshatra and Asmi, which have all announced exclusive collection suited for the occasion. Apart from jewellery, the online space also offers a wide variety of gifting options for the special someone.
According to Vivek Jaiswal, director at FashionBean, an emerging clothesline, “Valentine’s Day presents us the perfect opportunity to provide offers and discounts in the run up to the special day.”
Management professional Prinsu Jain explains, “Valentine’s Day is an ideal way to cash in on the sentiments of the shopper. People want to splurge money on the costliest of gifts for their loved ones. Retailers in the online space as well as the direct ones need to gear up better in the tier II and III cities, where the concept still has some hype.”
Valentine’s Day gifting can also be a tricky situation for a buyer. However, online retailing has opened up plenty of options. One can choose from the hundreds of reliable online retailers to deliver the gifts at the doorstep of their loved ones on the special day.
