Samsonite to Add 50 Stores by 2012

Samsonite India, the countryís leading manufacturer for travel bags, is ready to add 50 new stores to its existing chain of retail outlets by 2012. The company has already launched ten stores in Pune in the past few months, and will soon open its 300th store in India, by April 2012. The company currently owns 292 stores in India, and its recent addition will take this number to 342 outlets. According to market reports, the market share of Samsonite has increased from 25ñ45 percent. Samsonite India has also earned revenues of `1,000 cr. in 2011, which contributes 7.8 percent to global Samsonite sales. Currently, the company has three major brandsóSamsonite Black Label, Samsonite and American Touristeróin its portfolio. The company also plans to add to its stores located in airports. Recently, Samonite also collaborated with Saevus Wildlife to launch Saevus, Indiaís premium wildlife and natural history magazine.

Samsoniteís non-travel segment products contribute about 38 percent of the companyís business, and it may contribute upto 50 percent as per the companyís plans. Subrata Datta ñ Managing Director, Samsonite South Asia Pvt Ltd noted that business for non-travel product, including wallets, shoes, waist pouches and other accessories is also growing faster.
